Classic Chili Ingredients

This recipe has a ton of delicious ingredients so that you can expect a flavorful meal. First, you’ll need to gather:

  • 1 tablespoon of:
    • Olive oil
    • Garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons of:
    • Ground cumin
    • Granulated sugar
    • Tomato paste
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons of:
    • Salt
    • Ground black pepper
  • One medium diced yellow onion
  • One pound of ground beef, 90 percent lean
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons of ground chili powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper
  • 1 1/2 cups of beef broth
  • 15 ounce can of petite diced tomatoes
  • 16 ounce can of red kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 8-ounce can of tomato sauce

How to Make the Chili

Start by putting the olive oil in a soup pot. Then turn the burner to medium-high and let the olive oil heat up for two minutes. Next, toss the onion into the soup pot and let it cook for another five minutes. Make sure to stir it occasionally so it doesn’t stick to the pot.

Next, you’ll add the ground beef and use a wooden spoon to break it up. You need to brown the beef, which takes 6-7 minutes. Stir the beef while it cooks, so it browns evenly.

Once the beef is browned, add the following:

  • Chili powder
  • Sugar
  • Garlic power
  • Cumin
  • Tomato paste
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Cayenne

Stir it together and add the following:

  • Kidney beans
  • Diced tomatoes with juice
  • Tomato sauce

Stir the mixture once again and bring it to a boil. Then lower the burner to low or medium-low and bring it to a simmer. Keep the pot uncovered and cook it for an additional 20-25 minutes. Again, stir the chili occasionally as it cooks.

Then take it off the burner and let it sit for 10 minutes. This will give the ingredients a little more time to blend. Then serve it and watch your family go wild over the tantalizing flavors.

Do You Need to Turn Down the Heat?

If you don’t love hot food, you can leave out the cayenne. Then it will have a milder taste without all that extra heat.

But what if some of your family loves spicy food, and some people don’t? Simply leave out the cayenne but give people the option to add hot sauce to their meals. Then everyone can get the degree of heat they want.

This chili recipe is the perfect comfort food for the fall. Whether you need hearty helping for a football game or want something to take the nip out of the air, it will deliver. And since it’s easy to make, you can whip it up over and over again.
