If you tend to travel with a full party of friends and family, it makes sense to invest in a vehicle that can accommodate everyone with room to spare. The Ford Explorer is built for group trips and growing families, so let’s take a closer look to see what the 2019 model has to offer.

Reliable Ford Power

Ford offers several engine options to power the 2019 Explorer, and they all deliver serious energy for city and highway travel. The standard model runs on a 290-horsepower V6 mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. As you explore the trim options, you can enjoy the impressively efficient 280-horsepower turbocharged EcoBoost 4-cylinder or the additional alacrity of the 365-horsepower turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6. While you’ll find that any option comes through with brisk acceleration whenever you need it, the EcoBoost V6 optimizes the SUV’s towing potential. When equipped with this engine, the Explorer can pull up to 5,000 pounds. Even for its spacious cabin and large frame, the SUV handles well for its class and stays balanced as you wind through twists and turns.

Onboard Comfort

In its standard configuration, the Explorer can carry up to seven people, while a six-seater version comes with second-row captain’s chairs. All three rows promise a comfortable ride with generous space for all your passengers, and there’s no lack of legroom from the front to the back. The seating’s soft cushions are upholstered with smooth cloth in the base trim, while upper trims are available with stylish leather. When the whole family is riding together, you can fasten children’s car seats in the middle row’s outboard seats via two sets of LATCH connections. Some 2019 models also come with heated seating in the first two rows, a heated steering wheel, and massaging front seats.

Technology

The base Explorer features a user-friendly SYNC infotainment system, while upper trims sport the seamless SYNC3 touchscreen system. Either interface lets you access your favorite apps without delay, with modern physical controls in the base setup and a combination of analog and screen inputs in the SYNC3 system. Available features include navigation, smartphone synchronization, and satellite radio.  Ford’s MyKey technology also comes standard, allowing you to program sound volume and speed limitations whenever a secondary driver is at the wheel.
