Grill These Jalapeno & Gorgonzola Burgers

Hot spicy jalapeno burger with pepper slices, nachos and cheese on a tray at a fast food restaurant.

As a staple of American cuisine, you can find places that sell hamburgers wherever you go. However, most restaurants serve the same flavors, which becomes boring. Here’s a burger that’s ideal whether having friends over for a game or surprising your family with something new. This jalapeno and gorgonzola burger is a perfect combination of savory and spice.

Ingredients

To make this mouth-watering burger, you’ll need the following ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon canola oil
  • 1 teaspoon of butter
  • Dash of salt and granulated sugar
  • 1 medium onion (peeled, halved, and sliced thin)

For the burgers, buy these ingredients:

  • 1 pound of lean ground beef
  • 1/3 cup jalapeno pepper jelly
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons Gorgonzola cheese (crumbled)
  • 4 hamburger buns (split and toasted)
  • Jalapeno peppers (sliced thin)

If the jalapeno peppers make the burger too spicy, you can eliminate them from the recipe.

Directions

Not only are these hamburgers incredibly delicious, but they’re also easy to make.

Step One

To make these yummy burgers, heat both the oil and butter in a small skillet on medium heat. Add the onion, salt, and sugar. Continue cooking until the onion tenderizes. Usually, that takes about four minutes. Then, reduce the heat to low and cook the onions further until they turn a golden-brown color. However, during that five-minute process, be sure to stir them occasionally.

Step Two

Next, place the jalapeno pepper jelly, salt, and pepper in a large mixing bowl. Stir well. Afterward, add the ground beef. Again, mix the ingredients well. When done, form the beef into four patties, each roughly one-half inch thick.

Step Three

Turn the grill on medium-high heat. When it’s ready, put the burgers on the grill for about five minutes. Overall, a meat thermometer should reach 160 degrees Fahrenheit. However, you can also broil the burgers if preferred. Just be sure they’re approximately four inches from the heat source.

Step Four

For the final step, place the burgers on the buns. Then, top them with equal amounts of caramelized onions, cheese, and sliced jalapeno peppers.

Enhancing the Burgers

These jalapeno and Gorgonzola cheese hamburgers are so good you probably think there’s no way to make them better. However, you can enhance their flavor by adding other ingredients. For instance, just before serving, place two to three strips of crispy bacon on top.

In addition, you can add a thick slice of tomato and fresh lettuce. Using homegrown tomatoes and lettuce kicks the flavor and texture up another notch. That’ll create a slight sweetness to an otherwise spicy burger.

If you want to make a big impression, you could make homemade French fries or onion rings to go along with the burgers. Now, if you’re making these for a party or special outdoor event, you could even make smooth and creamy milkshakes.
