Lace up those shoes and get ready to run the distance for a great cause. On Wednesday, June 5, the Big Run 5K returns to Greenville, North Carolina for the 3rd year in a row.
Presented by Fleet Feet and Brooks Running Company, this annual race is part of a nationwide event that brings together thousands of runners to celebrate Global Runners Day and raise money for Ainsley’s Angels – a nonprofit with the mission of building awareness about America’s special needs community through inclusion in all aspects of life. The organization is named in honor of the late Ainsley Rossiter, who was born with an extremely rare terminal illness known as Infantile Neuroaxonal Dystrophy (INAD).
The Big Run 5K is open to all those who wish to participate – from expert runners to novices and everyone in between. In 2018, this race pulled in 16,000 runners who trekked 25,000 miles across 100 events in over 20 states. Race Details
Registration is open online now and lasts until June 3. The Big Run starts at Five Points Plaza W. 5th St at Evans St in Greenville at 6 pm and will last until 8 pm. The price to compete is $35 per runner, plus a $3 sign up fee. Registrants must be at least 18 years old to enter. Children under 18 may compete in the race, but must be registered by a parent or guardian.
Runner’s of any skill level are encouraged to participate. However, the Greenville Fleet Feet store offers training programs prior to the race for those who are interested.
Results from the race will be funneled into a national leaderboard that will determine the overall male and female winners and fastest runners in each age group. Winners in these categories will receive cash prizes. There will be additional awards for other achievements as well, these include:
- Common Ground: Those with the most common finish time in The Big Run will be entered into a drawing for a big prize.
- Middle of the Pack: Recognition for the male and female who finish in the exact middle of all The Big Run results.
- Social Butterflies: Sweet prizes for the two people with the most-engaged social media posts about The Big Run. To be eligible for this prize, Include #thebigrun, @brooksrunning, and @fleetfeetsports in your posts.
